Learning useful vocabulary in English as a second language is the key to improving all of the language skills, including literacy. This paper describes a technology supported vocabulary learning study involving the students enrolled in various university foundation programs in Qatar. Study design is based on the comparison of two technology supported flashcard activities: one in which students study vocabulary using teacher-designed electronic cards and one in which they are asked to design their own cards. While theoretically either approach could be effective, anecdotal evidence suggests that learners might prefer the teacher-designed cards.

We Seventh-day Adventists believe ourselves to have a prophetic mission. The clarion call of the three angels’ messages, found in Revelation 14:6-12, has for 150 years been a call to action in our mission of spreading the gospel of Jesus around the globe. Jesus reminds us that as His children we must always be ready. The lesson in the parable of the 10 wedding attendants (Matt. 25:1-13), five of whom were unprepared for the bridegroom’s arrival, is worthy of our consideration today.

The Relevance of External Validity and the MAXMINCON Principle to Research Design

According to Heppner, Wampold and Kivlighan (2008), the knowledge base of a profession must have a foundation laid on empirical support. They noted that the credibility of the profession would be significantly challenged if it did not possess a strong scientific foundation. These authors posit that confidence in results is derived from the use of the scientific method. Because the findings of research provide empirical support for treatment modalities, therapeutic interventions and other significant processes, it is essential that the findings be credible. It is therefore imperative that the researcher employ techniques that minimize research bias/ error as this would be detrimental to end users.

We pulled up to the camping site trying to figure out where in the world we would put our two tents. We looked around doubtfully, surveying our only two options: a small, sloping grassy area at the end of the paved parking area (did I mention sloping?), and a narrow rectangular plot on the right edge of it (did I mention narrow?).

Why Mission?

Mission is far more than leaving one’s home for foreign lands. It is the task Christ committed to all members of God’s family, the sharing of the good news of salvation. To understand it better, let’s apply the six questions of basic journalism: Who? What? Where? When? How? Why?
