Adventist World Church Secretary to Address Youth Jamboree

Executive Secretary of the Adventist World Church Pastor G. T. Ng will visit Jamaica April 16-18, 2014, during a tour of the Caribbean region. While here he will officially declare the start of the Jamaica Union Conference Youth Jamboree schedule for April 17 – 21 at Camp Verley in Spring Village, St. Catherine. Dr. Ng will also deliver the main address to the more that two thousand young people from across the Union in what is expected to be a very fun and spirit-filled event.

More than 300 Rotuma islanders gathered for a rare camp meeting over the year end. The gathering became the talk of the 2,000 unique indigenous people who inhabit the isolated islands of Rotuma. Rotumans are more connected ancestrally and culturally to the Polynesian peoples of Tonga, Samoa, Futuna, and Uvea than they are to Fiji, but proudly they constitute a minority people within the Republic of Fiji.

Beginning in mid-February, students in Pacific Union College’s Individual Taxation class participated in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program at the Up Valley Family Centre in St. Helena, California. The students prepared tax returns for free for people that earned less than $58,000 per year, applying what they had learned in the classroom as part of a service-learning project that allowed them to grow their skills while providing a valuable service to members of the community.

As Pastor Ted Wilson, General Conference President, concluded a powerful, spirit-filled sermon on baptism, he made a moving appeal for individuals in the audience to make a full decision for Jesus. Gradually people began to come forward. First just a few came and then more and more people surged forward. Soon the front of the Manhattan, Greenwich Village church was filled with people. Some had tears streaming down their faces as they surrendered all to Jesus. Others bowed their heads quietly in prayer.

Northern Caribbean University’s (NCU) Male Volleyball team served up another win of its maiden entry to the Inter-collegiate competition, when they steam rolled an hapless Montego Bay Community College (MBCC) at the MBCC gymnasium on Monday April 7, 2014. The now highly fancied debutant team, NCU, waltzed passed the tam from Montego Bay 3-1. The easy four set victory saw NCU winning 25-23, 25-19, 24-26, and 25-12 to now move its chances of making the final four more realistic.
