The statement was made in juxtaposition to the drought experienced by the island of Jamaica in recent times. He outlined for his listening and viewing audience the features that made this graduating class and by extension, the academic year 2013-2014, a “better” one.

If you happen to be in Portland in the early morning or Westmoreland in late evening, you would have experienced the sunrise and the sunset. The sun, arrayed in all its glory, can be a sight to behold. No one in his right mind would pass by a sunrise or a sunset without exclaiming or at least appreciating its beauty. Song writer, George Beverly Shea, penned, “There’s the wonder of sunset at evening, the wonder as sunrise I see...”, climaxing to the point that the wonder of it all is that God loves us.

Abraham was called to it; Christopher Columbus imbued it; slaves from Africa lived it; immigrants from the West Indies wanted it... It is called culture or culture shock as we will eventually find out. Whenever there is an exodus of people moving from one place to the other, there is a possibility of acclimatization being severely tested. This is what happens to students moving into a tertiary institution; however, the process of orientation somewhat cushions the shock.
