The Maranatha Seventh-day Adventist church in Barnstaple, Manchester recently hosted the Central Jamaica Conference (CJC) Planning Retreat from Tuesday August 19 to Thursday, August 21, 2014. The officers culminated their retreat with a Sabbath celebration, which involved Sabbath School with the Manchester Lay Workers Federation; Divine Service with Pastors, Officers, Retired Workers of the conference; Adventist Youth Programme with Federation Officers and Elders and a Vespers Service with Outstanding Awardees in the work of the church.

Ground was officially broken in the Mandeville town centre recently to signify phase two of upgrading work of the Cecil Charlton Park. As part of the project, dilapidated parish council-owned shops rented to retailers were closed and have since been demolished. Ten modern kiosks will be constructed to replace them, at a cost of approximately US$100,000. The project has financial backing from the Government of Canada through the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (formerly Canadian International Development Agency - CIDA).
