Aubyn Hill, special guest speaker at 2014 Homecoming Awards Banquet, trumpeted the call for the building of wholesome families and strong family values to rescue Jamaica from its economic plight on Sunday October 12, 2014 in a spirited address at Northern Caribbean University’s (NCU) Mandeville campus. Hill, in sharing his views on building a more knowledge based and knowledge driven economy to drive economic growth and employment highlighted that there must be more than just building on land, labour, and capital.

Scientific research capabilities at Northern Caribbean University (NCU) were recently bolstered when NCU’s alumnus Dr. Whitford Reid donated a state of the art Inverted Microscope and fluorescent microscope to the Agri-research laboratory. This equipment was funded through the Witford and Leila Reid foundation which stared last year. The uniqueness of this machine makes it one the most rapidly expanding microscopy techniques and will be a useful research tool in the areas of biology, cytology, immunology, physiology and haematology.

Dominance of the Inter-collegiate junior league is exactly what the Northern Caribbean University’s (NCU) Netball team is doing as they marched into its fourth consecutive wins from as many games recently. The ladies from the ‘Beacon on the Hill’ continued its winning streak in the inter-collegiate netball competition, as they brushed a determined Sam Sharpe Teachers’ College (SSTC) 23-19 to chalk up its fourth win from as many matches at the SSTC’s Granville based courts.

The handing over ceremony which took place at Church Teachers’ College (CTC) in Mandeville featured Minister of National Security Hon. Peter Bunting, Custos Rotulorum of Manchester Hon. Sally Porteous, Her Worship the Mayor of Mandeville, Councillor Brenda Ramsay along with other movers and shakers from Clarendon, Manchester and St. Elizabeth.

Northern Caribbean University (NCU) combined badminton team remained on course to get to the finals of the Inter-Collegiate badminton finals for another year when both male and female teams brushed aside a struggling Church Teachers’ College’s (CTC) team at the NCU’s Gymnatorium on Monday October 27, 2014. The men’s team had a walk over against its parish rival when they waltzed away with a 5-0 thrashing against its less fancied opponents. The NCU ladies faced a minor scare in a doubles match but easily dispatched a hapless CTC team 4-1.

This is the fifth straight win for the inter-collegiate junior league defending champions who while playing at home turned in a workmanlike performance to keep its 100% win record intact.

The Northern Caribbean University (NCU) male football team earned its first point of the season on Tuesday October 28, 2014 when they played away to Vocational Training and Development Institute (VTDI) at the National Water Commission (NWC) field in Kingston. The traveling NCU had to muster all the courage that they could find to come from behind to earn its first point of the season. The 2-2 draw was the second point for the home team while the point placed NCU in a precariously third place position at the beginning of the season.

The Northern Caribbean University (NCU) female football team climbed atop of the leader board in zone B of the Inter-collegiate football competition’s first round following a hard fought one nil win over Shortwood Teachers’ College (STC) at the Shortwood field on Tuesday October 28, 2014. This win pushed the ladies from Mandeville to nine points from three wins ahead of group favourite GC Foster College. This goal, recorded as an own goal by the officials was the turning point for the first time entrants in the league.
