Northern Caribbean University (NCU) debaters were declared champions of the recently concluded central leg of the Human rights Debate Series which was held at the University’s Mandeville campus. The Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ) in collaboration with the Jamaica Association for Debating and Empowerment (JADE), held its sixth session of the human rights debate series under the theme “Human Rights in the 21st Century: Raising Awareness through Debate.” The practice session consisted of two rounds of debates on topics relating to human rights issues was geared towards helping young people to broaden their knowledge and debate skills in excelling in other arenas.

Northern Caribbean University (NCU) and the NCU Media Group recently kicked off the Manchester 200th anniversary celebrations with a flamboyant float parade and road march from the NCU main campus to the Manchester Horticultural Society on Ward Avenue. More than six educational institutions throughout the parish, the political directorate, the Area 3 police, Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) and businesses shared in the historic feat. Decorated fleet of vehicles lined the roads of Mandeville travelling northward towards the town of Mandeville and westward from Ward Avenue into the town centre.

The Northern Caribbean University (NCU) male football team remains in the top flight of intercollegiate football for 2015 after they missed out on advancing to the semi-finals of the division one league format recently at the NCU’s oval, dubbed ‘The Azteca.’ The home team lost its home dominance when they gave up an 85th minute goal against an Excelsior Community College (EXED) team in its final preliminary round game. With both teams vying for the last semi-final spot, NCU’s compactness and discipline within the centre and final thirds were left much to be desired as they failed to contain the recently promoted EXED team at home.

Northern Caribbean University (NCU) badminton teams rule the roost as the men and women from NCU dominated the intercollegiate badminton league recently when both teams were crowned champions. The women’s team had an easy 3-0 win over parish rivals Church Teachers’ College (CTC) while the men’s team had a walk over against the defending champions, University of Technology (Utech) who failed to show for the game. The matches were billed as identifying the true champions of intercollegiate badminton locally.
