The South Bahamas Conference Special Events Department in conjunction with the Department of Education, hosted a Professional Development seminar for teachers, school counselors, social workers, and psychologists. The seminar was appropriately entitled, “Hope for the Future: Guiding our Intellectually Challenged and Gifted Children”. This inaugural seminar held on November 15, 2011 at the headquarters of the South Bahamas Conference, foreshadows many that will impart knowledge and foster exceptional service.

This is due to the recently refurbished computer laboratory consisting of 18 brand new computers, and a coloured laser printer. The opening took place on Monday, November 28, 2011.

Northern Caribbean University’s (NCU) netball team on Thursday accomplished a herculean task when they marched into their maiden finals of the Inter-collegiate Junior League netball competition at the GC Foster College of Physical Education in St. Catherine. The ladies from the cool hills of Mandeville accomplished this feat by overcoming many hurdles in this their second season in the league with an impressive showing of tenacity and grit throughout the season. The spirited fight for the team placed them second in the competition when they were outscored in the finals by an experienced St. Joseph Teachers’ College team 29-21.

“There is more joy in giving than there is in receiving.” This was the sentiment shared by a former head girl of Savanna-la-mar High School, Christal-Ann Thompson-Richards, after she presented Northern Caribbean University (NCU) alumni, Dr. and Mrs. Byron Robinson with an original art piece. This presentation occurred during the evening session of Homecoming Weekend 2011 at the NCU gymnatorium in Mandeville. The art piece, Pagoda, named after the yellow pagoda, was done using Acrylic on Canvas, The Biological Sciences major, who currently holds an Associate of Arts degree in Mass Communication, uses her artistic skills as a hobby in order to share her passion, and in this case, gratitude.

NCU Mobay Campus Honours More Than 100 Students

Northern Caribbean University (NCU) Montego Bay campus recently paid homage to more than 110 students at its annual Honours Convocation at the Noel Frazer Auditorium in the second city. The event which was filled with pomp and pageantry sealed off the year for students, who have an accumulated Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 and above, to be publicly recognized and awarded. Guest speaker at the function, Mrs. Marline Stephenson-Dalley, communications specialist, lauded the honourees who toiled long and hard in order to achieve this milestone.
