The Gymnatorium of Northern Caribbean University (NCU) was abuzz with excitement, on Saturday night, March 31, with the inaugural staging of the Mr. and Miss HuBSS Coronation show where Tamara Bailey was voted as Miss HuBSS and Ricardo Miles as Mr. HuBSS. The female contestants were Tamara Bailey and Lafaine Wiggan and the male contestants Carl Cunningham, Oshane Scott, and Ricardo Miles. Here is a photographic highlight of the event.

A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger (Proverbs 15 v.1). Oftentimes it is in the heat of an argument that one word ignites the fire. The fire created can sometimes be fatal. People may get burned. Some may be lucky enough to live and tell about it. But like any devastating event there is a calm ambience with my many “what ifs” floating around. So how can you prevent this wild fire from negatively affecting your life?

The Department of English and Modern Languages of Northern Caribbean University (NCU) staged its second International Language Conference on the University’s main campus in Mandeville from April 3-4, 2012 under the theme “Un-Babel-ing Languages: Engendering Global Understandings.” International language specialists from seven countries: Saudi Arabia, the United States of America, Italy, India, England, and Cuba participated in the conference. The scholars facilitated dynamic presentations and discussions on issues relevant to language teaching and learning. Dr. Hubert Devonish, Professor of Linguistics, and Coordinator of the Jamaican Language Unit for Caribbean Language Research, Department of Language, Linguistics and Philosophy, at the University of the West Indies, Mona was the keynote speaker.

“Prepare to make a difference in the world and seek to improve the quality of life of the people you work with” declared Pastor Michael Harvey as he encouraged some of the Medical Technology aspirants of Northern Caribbean University (NCU), who were qualified to be pinned. The pinning service was enjoyed by the students, family members, and friends in the NCU Main Auditorium. The department has been in operation for 21 years having started with only 3 students. Now, the College of Allied Health and Nursing through its department of Medical Technology boasts a compliment of 33 juniors among its Medical Technology scholars enrolled in the program. These juniors are scheduled to graduate in 2013.

At some point in our lives we all long for that special touch. Some desire a touch from a loved one, while others long to be filled with the presence of God. With just a touch of the border of His garment, immediately the woman with the issue of blood was healed.

While several businesses are folding, and corporations are laying off workers, there is a drive at Northern Caribbean University (NCU) to unleash and hone the entrepreneurial spirit of its students who may likely face the brick wall of unavailable employment upon their graduation. In fact, even if they do find employment, the University is persuaded that her students bring greater value to the marketplace if they know how to create and manage a business, and are prepared as entrepreneurs, irrespective of their discipline of study. There is also another significant need that drives the entrepreneurial imperative on campus – students need funds to pay for their education.

Northern Caribbean University (NCU) hosted an International PREPaRE (Prevent, Reaffirm Evaluate, Provide and Respond , Examine) Workshop on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 on its Main campus in Mandeville. Guidance Counsellors, teachers, social workers, psychologists, students and other professionals attended the workshop to receive training in School Crisis Prevention and Intervention. The event featured psychologist at the University of California-Santa Barbara, Dr. Shane Jimerson.
