Sabbath: Beyond the Creation

More often than not Seventh-day Adventists’ view of the Sabbath is somehow skewed to Genesis 2 and Exodus 20’s rendition of Him as the Creator. While our introduction to the Sabbath speaks primarily of creation, the clearly bigger issue that the Sabbath addresses is that it is a mark of allegiance to God, not only as our creator (Ex. 20: 8-11), but as our sanctifier (Ex. 31: 13), and also as our deliverer (Deut. 5: 15); it speaks to His sovereignty and ultimate right to call all of us to His judgement bar (Rev. 14: 7).

With cancer recognized as one of the leading causes of death among many Jamaicans, hundreds from across the parish of St. Ann braved the sporadic showers this past Sunday to benefit from the Adventist Health Symposium and Clinic which emphasized cancer awareness and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. The emphasis came in light of the Cancer Society of Jamaica designating the month of April for Cancer Awareness.

The Sabbath School, Personal Ministries and Community Services Department of East Jamaica Conference, launched the Second Module of the School of Evangelism at the Kencot SDA Church on Sunday April 15, 2012. Northern Caribbean University (NCU) president Dr. Trevor Gardner led team to a courtesy call on the Jamaican Prime Minister the Most Honourable Portia Simpson Miller at her Jamaica House office recently. The visit was the first for the 23rd president of more than 100 year old institution, NCU. The meeting was considered a success as the academicians shared ideas with the Prime Minister, Information Minister Senator Sandra Falconer, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) Onika Miller, and Press Secretary Lincoln Robinson.

Northern Caribbean University (NCU) president Dr. Trevor Gardner led a team of administrators that made a courtesy call on Prime Minister the Most Honourable Portia Simpson Miller at Jamaica House recently. The visit was the first for the 23rd president of the 105 year old institution. The meeting was considered a success as the administrators discussed matters on education and national development in the context of Jamaica’s 2030 vision. These discussions were held with the Prime Minister, Information Minister Senator Sandrea Falconer, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) Onika Miller, and Press Secretary Lincoln Robinson.
