William D. Blake in This Day in Christian History presents a fascinating record of daily Christian events. In his April 25th offering he writes, “This is the latest day in the spring on which Easter can fall. (Easter is determined by the Paschal full moon, which can occur as early as March 21.) Easter has fallen on April 25 only three times during the last three centuries: 1734, 1886, and 1943. It will not occur on April 25 again until 2038.

Proximity should not be a deterrent for those in search of quality education. Northern Caribbean University (NCU) believes in making education accessible and made this possible through the Department of Professional and Continuing Studies. The department was established as a medium through which the university provides high quality, Christian education, to numerous individuals who due to the constraints of work and/or family commitments are unable to access the university Mandeville campus for full time studies. It is the agent through which colleges of the University deliver academic programmes at convenient locations to persons wishing to upgrade or commence a new degree programme.

How many of us wish we could be in more than one place at a time? I surely do. Imagine the pleasure of laying in bed while being present at that board meeting. Is this possible? With today’s emerging technologies, a set of technology has made it possible for us to feel as if we were present, as well as giving the appearance of being present, or to have an effect at a place other than their true location. This is known as telepresence. It works via telerobotics. So what are the benefits of telepresence and how is it implemented?

Portraits of God's Love

Perhaps the most well known and used text in the Bible is John 3:16; this portion of scripture emphasises the reason Christ laid down His life on Calvary for the salvation of the human family. John says that reason is love. “For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” It is this same John who helps us to understand why God can only act out of love in 1 John 4: 8 where he points out that God is Love. However, we cannot see God directly so He has painted several portraits of Himself: we see that portrait in the life of His son Christ Jesus, and that is why Christ said, when you see me, you see the Father; we see Him in his creation, that is why the Psalmist David says in Psalm 19 that “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament sheweth his handywork;” indeed, human beings have also been tasked with that responsibility – to show forth God’s love. This photographic review gives us a glimpse, a portrait of God’s love.

For many of the world's women, lack of religious freedom is just one of many human rights challenges they face. How to address these issues-and whether or not secularism advances the cause of women's religious liberty around the world-was the focus of discussion among a group of leaders and delegates at the 7th World Congress in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, on April 24.

Medical Technologists are clinical laboratory professionals who conduct tests on clinical specimens to diagnose, treat, and monitor diseases. They are highly instrumental in providing necessary information to determine whether a candidate should be allowed access to or continue in an educational institution. Yes, it is now time to update school medicals in order to complete the registration process for summer sessions or fall semester. Hence, returning students and applicants to educational institutions, such as NCU, are required to show evidence of their health status with lab test results. The Department of Medical Technology continues to offer diagnostic testing services for, among others, all the lab tests required as part of school medicals. These include hemoglobin (Hb/Hgb), sickle cell, blood type, routine urinalysis and VDRL. But, what is the purpose of each of these?

“All’s fair in love and war”- Paradoxical Mystery or is it Reality?

Many of us have often used or heard the popular cliché, “All is fair in love and war.” But do we really understand what it means or who said those words? I have heard and used the phrase many times, but never really understood what it meant, so I decided do some research in an effort to decipher this paradoxical mystery or reality. Ask.com credits the phrase to English writer John Lyly who penned the words in his best known book “Euphues: The Anatomy of Wit”. Lyly wrote “the rules of fair play do not apply in love and war” how then did we arrive at “all is fair in love and war”? Can we conclude as I was led to believe that during situations where love is at stake, or during war, people are not bound by rules of fair play? Is it that because the intricacies of our “play” are not revealed then it is “fair”? Or can it be argued that because our motives are pure or the results were favourable then “all is fair in love and war”.
