Who would you say gave birth to mankind? Yes, we all know that God created man from the dust of the ground, but by himself ‘this man’ could not multiply the family of man on earth. He was not designed to do that. Eve, the mother, was designed to do so. Some would say she is marvellous, outstanding, talented, honourable, exceptional, and responsible. She is sacrificial and understanding. Still haven’t figured out who this person is? Around the world many persons honour and celebrate mothers and motherhood and mom’s positive contribution to society. In the United States of America and the Caribbean, the third Sunday in May is set aside to pay tribute to our mothers. Sunday 13, 2012 is Mothers’ Day. But who decided that mothers should be celebrated?

Under the theme, “Worship His Majesty: Live for His Glory”, Pastor Patrick G. Smith conducted the spring Week of Prayer at Maranatha Academy from May 1 – 4, 2012. Little Joshua Daniel, a student of Richmond Hill Preparatory School delivered Monday’s message. This well presented message helped to set the stage for the subsequent presentations by Pastor Smith.Pastor Smith is the Associate Vice President in charge of University Relations at Northern Caribbean University, Mandeville, Jamaica.

Northern Caribbean University (NCU) president, Dr Trevor Gardner on Thursday May 10,2012 lauded the crème de la crème of the education department of Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) schools in the eastern parishes of Jamaica. The East Jamaica Conference (EJC) of SDA recently recognized the distinguished faculty and staff at an awards dinner at the Knutsford Court Hotel in Kingston. The more than sixty awardees were recognized by the EJC Education department for their sterling contributions in the field of education. The educators were lauded as being a part of an elite group who are pivotal building blocks of the society who ought to be always honoured in order to make the society more progressive.

NCU Certifies Central Clarendon Youths and Entrepreneurs

More than fifty persons in Central Clarendon were recently trained in Entrepreneurship and job preparedness over a three months period by Northern Caribbean University (NCU) Morris Entrepreneurship Centre (MEC) in partnership with the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) and the European Union (EU). Of the 55 persons who started the training, 51 successfully completed the training which was aimed at enhancing their entrepreneurial skills so as to be productive in their craft. The unattached youth were not to be left out as they were trained in job readiness techniques, life skills, and personal development as the MEC sought to help increase their attractiveness to potential employers.

Throughout the week of May 13-19, the United States of America (USA) recognizes the service and sacrifice of U.S. law enforcement officers. A joint resolution from the 87th Congress of the USA instituted that “the calendar week of each year during which May 15 occurs as Police Week.” The goal of National Police week is to pay special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

The team spoke candidly about the growth of the Seventh-day Adventist church in Jamaica, the development and contribution of NCU locally and in the region, and the impact that these entities can have on Jamaica.

Inter-America: Publishing House reports on financial progress, shares new resources

Administrators and leaders at the Inter-American Division Publishing Association (IADPA), one of two publishing houses operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Inter-America, gave their financial report for 2011 and announced new projects to board members in Miami, Florida, on May 9, 2012. The report came as the dozens of church leaders throughout the church in Inter-America gathered for the first of two annual business meetings.
