While Jamaica celebrated its 50th year of political independence, the West Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventists (WJC) equally joined the country as it celebrated its 50th year of existence as a conference. The conference which consists of St. James, Hanover, Westmoreland, and St. Elizabeth, celebrated during a homecoming celebration at the Noel Frazer Auditorium at the Salem head office site in St. James. The conference, in reflecting of God’s leading in advancing the hope for the last fifty years had two former members of the clergy from that region inspiring the people of western Jamaica to strive for excellence for the future. West Jamaica Conference (WJC) of Seventh-day Adventists (SDA) recently celebrated its 50th anniversary with a grand homecoming celebration at the Noel Frazer auditorium in Montego Bay. WJC is a member organization of the Jamaica Union (JAMU) Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, with oversight of activities in the parishes of Saint Elizabeth, Westmoreland, Hanover, and St James. The festivities included a beautiful staging of the majestic musical – Jamaica Unite – originally arranged and performed by Northern Caribbean University (NCU) family. The Pastor Derek and Yvonne Bignall, former union president and NCU vice president respectively, produced and directed production had members of the audience asking for more as they marvelled at the originality and culturally significant presentation for Jamaica and WJC at large.

Your journey has just begun.” charged Mrs. Audrey Hinchcliffe, CEO Manpower and Maintenance Placement Agency, to 2012 graduating class of the prestigious Nursing department of Northern Caribbean University (NCU). Hinchcliffe was the guest speaker at annual Nurses’ Pinning Consecration Service held at the NCU Gymnatorium on Wednesday August 8, 2012. The 82 graduands have worked tirelessly over the last four years in order to arrive at this stage of their educational thrust. The Nursing Class of 2012 carried with them the mantra – Yes We Can… Oh Yes we Did, as they proudly shared their experiences of sleepless nights, loyal friendships, and the sweet taste of victory. The graduating class have within the cohort three males who were considered by their peers as rare gems within their sojourn.

Despite the revelation by Minister of Education Ronald Thwaites that there has been a decrease in the percentage of pupils who passed the exams in the recent sitting of the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC), 16-year-old Olivia Valentine from Victor Dixon High School (VDHS) in Mandeville, Manchester, has much to smile about.
