NCU Training Cops to be Counsellors

Some 1,300 members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) have so far been trained as para-professional counsellors as part of an initiative between the Northern Caribbean University (NCU) and the Government, which is aimed at equipping policemen and women to help themselves and their colleagues cope with stress.

Retired Pastor and former family ministries director in Jamaica Errol Thomas, was conferred with the National Honor of Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer (OD). He was among 150 individuals who were recognized by the government of Jamaica for service to the nation during the Ceremony of Investiture and Presentation of National Honors and Awards 2012 held on the lawns of Kings House on National Heroes Day, October 15.

The Department of Humanities at Northern Caribbean University (NCU) along with Jamaica National Heritage Trust (JNHT) will host a Public Lecture on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the institution’s Main Campus in Mandeville. The event will be guided under the theme, "Celebrating Jamaica 50th Anniversary-Jamaica on a Mission: Empowerment through Heritage Education” and features Mrs. Lyn McKenzie, Assistant Professor of History at NCU as the Main Presenter. The public lecture is one of the activities that is organised in recognition of Heritage Week which runs from October 11-18, 2012.

Northern Caribbean University (NCU) Media Group made history on October 19, 2012, when it began training its first batch of Mass Communication students. Ms Nadeen Campbell, Manager of news, sports, and current affairs for NCU FM, articulated that “one of the responsibilities of the NCU Media Group is to provide practical hands-on training for communication students at the university.”
