The Ministers wives of the Cayman Conference enjoyed an unforgettable week on March 22 and 23, when they were visited by both The Shepherdess Coordinators of ATCU and IAD. This gathering included all the Shepherdesses of the Cayman Islands Conference with their coordinator, Mrs. Donnet O’Connor along with the Shepherdess Coordinators from the other fields of the ATCU territory; Mrs. Joan Scavella of the North Bahamas Conference and Mrs. Lyn Smith of the Turks and Cacaos Islands. Missing from the group was the coordinator of the North Bahamas Conference, Mrs. Tinker, who passed on last year.

NCU Montego Bay Campus Reaches Out to Flankers

Residents of the community of Flankers, inclusive of students of Flankers Primary and Junior High, were the recipients of free medical checks during last Thursday's official launch of the Montego Bay Campus of the Northern Caribbean University's Missions. "It is a good thing. Now I don't have to go into town to have these checks done," said Claudette Morris, who resides in the community. "It will help because some people don't have the money to go and have it done outside of the area. In addition, they can come here and also get advice from the nurses."

Whenever there is a threat of hurricane or extensive rainfall in Jamaica there are some locations where the inhabitants are anxiously warned to evacuate in order to avert certain disaster. Sometimes when you watch world news casts and you see footage for major flood rains, you get keen sense of the terrifying force of water when you see cars floating like plastic toys and entire houses torn from their foundation. You sometimes see towering trees that become felled and the equilibrium of life becomes distorted. Few things there are that can defy the deadly force of flood waters. When flood waters come you just have to wait it out and hope you survive.

ON DECEMBER 3, 2011, The Gleaner told the story of how Violet Whyte of Plum Valley in Charles Town, Portland, used hibiscus petals to make a drink similar in taste to what we call sorrel here in Jamaica. It turned out that hibiscus (Hisbiscus rosa-sinensis) is actually related to sorrel (Hibiscus sabdariffa). Now, some students and teachers at Cross Keys High School in Manchester have taken the use of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis to a whole new level of versatility.
