Andrew Kuntaraf, 33, Church Software Architect, Dies

Andrew Oey Kuntaraf, 33, director of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventist’s Church Membership Software office, was killed April 6, 2013, in a traffic accident in Charles Town, West Virginia. City police there are continuing their investigation, a department spokesman said.

Two lay members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church who published articles in Adventist Review magazine in 2012 each received one of the Christian world’s top publishing prizes: Awards of Excellence from the Associated Church Press, an industry group. A total of 11 awards were presented to Adventist Review and Adventist World writers, staff and designers for work published last year, during ACP’s convention awards banquet on April 4, 2013, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Two students of Northern Caribbean University (NCU) Department of Communication Studies' (DCS) Jevon Minto and Janeil Lambert were on Monday April 8, 2013 declared the university's top mass communication students and were robed with the burgundy jackets. Like the green jacket awarded golf's Masters winners the burgundy blazer is a symbol of prestige that inducts the wearers into an exclusive club of high achievers.

I was privileged recently to overhear two university students talking about school. Invariably their conversation led to lecturers and it was not surprising to observe the grain of their conversation; a lecturer was deemed good or bad to the extent that his/her exams were "passable." They spoke of lecturers who, from every indication, wanted their students to successfully sit their examinations.

That’s a Wrap! Like a steaming cup of ginger tea in the evening, curtains came down on the Northern Caribbean University’s (NCU) Department of Communication Studies (DCS) Communication Symposium and Lignum Vitae Film Festival at the Solomon Harriott Lecture Theatre on the Mandeville campus. The venue was bursting at its seams, as each production was scrutinized by the diverse audience of students, faculty, staff, and visitors affiliated with the media industry or just curious to see what the buzz was about at the third staging of the DCS Film Festival. Of the eight awards that were up for grabs, Richard Odane Forsythe walked away with two trophies inclusive of the coveted Best Picture with his Stages Production.

After weeks of research, practice matches and rigorous workshops Northern Caribbean University’s (NCU) debating team members enjoyed the fruits of their labour courtesy of the Department of Communication Studies at NCU. The team which placed second in the recently concluded UTECH Debating Championships was treated to a picnic at Little Rippon Adventure Park as well as a leisure tour of several communities on Wednesday, April 10. Not to be left out of the day’s happenings were a few students who played an integral role in the success of the Department of Communication Studies’ annual symposium held on April 8 and 9.
