NCU Counsellors to assist Penwood High

Grief ounsellors from the Ministry of Education will be dispatched to the Penwood High School following the fatal stabbing of a student on the school compound on Thursday. Robert Miller, chairman of the School Board, said a meeting will be held Friday morning with the students, following which there will be grievance sessions.

Good to the very last scene, the Northern Caribbean University’s (NCU) Department of Communication Studies (DCS) Communication Symposium and Lignum Vitae Film Festival at the Solomon Harriott Lecture Theatre rekindled the Jamaican passion in the arts. Hosted on the cool and tranquil Mandeville campus, the symposium and film festival sparked much discussion and fanfare with every presentation and as each production among students, faculty, staff, media professionals and visitors. Of the eight awards that were up for grabs, Richard Odane Forsythe walked away with two trophies inclusive of the coveted Best Picture with his Stages Production.

On Sunday March 31, 2013, Secretary/Treasurer of the Turks and Caicos Islands Mission (TCIM), Hopeton Bansie, along with Atlantic Caribbean Union Mission (ATCU) Executive Secretary, Pastor Peter Kerr, hosted a Church Clerks’ workshop at the Mission’s Office on Leeward Highway in Providenciales. The main objective of the workshop was to equip Secretaries/Church Clerks across the Mission with the necessary tools to perform their duties in a more proficient and efficient manner. The training provided insights into the roles and responsibilities that Church Clerks and Treasurers must perform within the daily operations of our local church, in order that the Mission will have accurate information about its members.

A team from Northern Caribbean University (NCU) travelled to the city of Portmore in St. Catherine for the first in a series dubbed NCU Connect 2013 on April 16. Visitors to the exhibitions mounted at the Portmore Mall learnt about the wide variety of programmes offered by the university and benefited from free health checks. They also stood the chance of winning tuition scholarships and discounts. NCU FM was on site and carried a live outside broadcast of the day’s activities.
