NCU Undertakes Training for Paraprofessional Counsellors
The thrust for training and equipping pastors and church workers with paraprofessional counselling exercises is still alive and continued recently in the eastern end of the island. The team from Northern Caribbean University’s Office of Civic/Governmental Relations for Community Advancement held the first of its island wide training at the East Jamaica Conference (EJC) Office of Seventh-day Adventists in Kingston from Tuesday, May 5 to Thursday, May 7, 2015.

NCU's Mathematics Department Making Mathematics Manageable for May Day Students
Fourth and fifth form students of May Day High School in May Day, Manchester benefited from a Mathematics Marathon organized by Northern Caribbean University (NCU)’s Department of Mathematics recently. The department along with the academic club, Society of Mathematicians and Engineers (SOME), have partnered with the May Day High school in central Manchester to engage students doing the 2015 CSEC examinations and others with the passion to master the craft in a Mathematics Marathon.

West Indies Collage Preparatory School, in Manchester, under the leadership and support of Principal Mrs. Lowry Spence participated in the 2015 National Visual Arts Competition staged by JCDC at the National Gallery of Jamaica. This year the institution received five awards which includes a bronze medal. The students who participated in this national event are: Raheem Gallimore, Enoch Omoregie, Jonathan Wright and Leonardo Royal.

During my last interview, when the interviewer asked, 'Do you have any questions?' my mind went blank and I did not know what to say so I just said 'no'. Prime Minister the Most Honourable Portia Simpson-Miller asserted that Labour Day this year will focus on heightening the awareness of violence towards our children.

Silence is deafening. It has an amount of energy like no other source. It has the power to get people to think, to act, and it also helps to slow the mind. It is a vital tool used in areas such as counselling and life coaching. We live in a culture that values sharing every thought and feeling as it occurs. Some of us don’t often pause to reflect on what we have just said.
