Eating well simply for the sake of being well may not always be enough of an incentive for a person to eat the type of diet that we associate with healthy eating. Chronic diseases such as hypertension, hypercholesterolemia (high blood cholesterol) and other cardiovascular diseases motivate some people to eat a more health-promoting diet.

I'm impressed with particular details of Atarxerxes' decree as recorded in Ezra 7. Elements of it could just as easily have come from a prophet or a modern day leader such as our President, Pastor Ted Wilson... even Jesus Himself.

It is no secret. A diet that is high in fats and sugars increases the chances of weight gain. We know that eating too much fast food, drinking too much soda, and not having enough fruits and vegetables on a daily basis is not good for us. But it seems as though when we are most stressed and feel tired after a long day at work, the easiest thing to do for dinner is to eat a quick meal that is often unhealthy. Added to this, most of us are not getting enough exercise on a daily basis, or adequate sleep at night. Even though many of us know the facts, we keep asking the questions, “Why can’t I stick to a healthy diet and exercise plan?”, or “Why am I gaining weight even though I am not doing anything different with my diet?”. The Answer: Stress and Your Weight.

O leg, my personal trainer, thinks 12 is a lucky number. We’ve been talking about the number 12 since his thirty-eighth birthday on March 12. Oleg pointed out that we think in 12-hour cycles, and that there are 12 months in a year. We also do our gym exercises in twelves: five sets of 12 crunches, four sets of 12 weight lifts, three sets of 12 minutes on the treadmill.
