Isn’t this the way of the Devil, “the accuser of the brethren?” Rev. 12:10.

“Insulin dispositions are the root of so many of the health problems we face today,” declared Dr. Patricia Gardner, accomplished medical doctor and Director of Health and Wellness at Northern Caribbean University (NCU). Culminating the inaugural Nutrition Week presentations, Dr. Gardner informed the audience on the various health risks associated with obesity and primarily, insulin resistance. “When you eat a meal the pancreas is alerted to secrete insulin. The insulin then coats the cell, thus allowing glucose to enter the cell. Without insulin such a process cannot occur. When there is too much glucose in the blood it can result in a condition called diabetes,” she explained. She outlined many ways we can use nutrition to stay healthy and disease free. “One major problem I find that Jamaicans face is the problem of affordability. What the parents need to do is train the taste buds of their children from an early age and you’ll find that whatever they are used to is what they learn to like,” Dr. Gardner stated.
