The Power of Silence

Silence is deafening. It has an amount of energy like no other source. It has the power to get people to think, to act, and it also helps to slow the mind. It is a vital tool used in areas such as counselling and life coaching. We live in a culture that values sharing every thought and feeling as it occurs. Some of us don’t often pause to reflect on what we have just said. This lack of reflection can lead to a superficial connection with ourselves. In contrast, by paying attention to the silence within our conversation, we can connect more deeply with ourselves. This deep connection is the basis of an authentically engaged and self-actualized life.

“And I say unto you, ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you”. (Luke 11 vs. 9) Most persons are sometimes afraid to ask for what it is that they desire. Here the Bible explicitly instructs us to ask. But how do we go about asking? Will what we seek always be granted unto us?

Diabetes mellitus is a condition in which the body does not properly process food for use as energy. Most foods consumed are changed into sugar or glucose for our bodies to get energy for activities such as breathing, walking, talking, and so on. The pancreas, also called the 'long liver', makes the hormone insulin to get glucose out of the blood and into the cells. With diabetes, the pancreas is either not making enough insulin or the insulin that is made is not being used well due to the amount of fat surrounding the cells. This causes sugar in the form of glucose to build up in the blood.

Portraits of God's Love

Perhaps the most well known and used text in the Bible is John 3:16; this portion of scripture emphasises the reason Christ laid down His life on Calvary for the salvation of the human family. John says that reason is love. “For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” It is this same John who helps us to understand why God can only act out of love in 1 John 4: 8 where he points out that God is Love. However, we cannot see God directly so He has painted several portraits of Himself: we see that portrait in the life of His son Christ Jesus, and that is why Christ said, when you see me, you see the Father; we see Him in his creation, that is why the Psalmist David says in Psalm 19 that “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament sheweth his handywork;” indeed, human beings have also been tasked with that responsibility – to show forth God’s love. This photographic review gives us a glimpse, a portrait of God’s love.
