NCU Staff Cops Top Community Award

Lynhurst Luminaries Citizens Association at its annual banquet recently held at the Jamaica Bible College hall in Mandeville awarded Mr. Andrew Baker, a member of the Northern Caribbean University (NCU) staff, with its highest accolade. Baker was recognized as the most outstanding citizen for 2011. The community which is located in the northern belt of Manchester is very active in community development and sporting activities. These activities help the keep the youth and elderly closely acquainted as they interact and participate in the myriad of activities frequently.

NCU Kingston Campus Brings Early Christmas to Children's Home

Hearts were warmed at the Strathmore Gardens children’s home as students from the Northern Caribbean University (NCU) Kingston campus, recently gave the residents there an early Christmas gift. The presentation of gifts and household items worth more than $250,000 was a joyous occasion for both the givers and the receivers. The group of students from a Social and Professional Ethics class, in executing its service learning component of the course, choose to organize the charitable gesture and also treated them to a full package of entertainment, love and affection.

The North Jamaica Conference (NJC) of Seventh-day Adventists was uplifted by the opportunity to witness the Dramatic Musical Re-enacting the Great Disappointment of October 22, 1844 on Sabbath, December 17, 2011. The congregants gathered at the Phoenix Park Conference centre in Moneague St. Ann were indeed blessed by performances of the cast comprising Northern Caribbean University (NCU) students. Donald English, a graduate of Northern Caribbean University, has joined Youth Villages as a teacher-counselor at the Youth Villages-Inner Harbour Campus in Douglasville, Ga., which provides residential treatment services for children with emotional, behavioral and mental health issues.

In this celebratory season many persons are highly motivated to turn to God in prayer and praise. These individuals desire a closer relationship with their maker. Indeed, during this season places of worship are often packed to capacity. That is a good thing! We affirm all persons who make an effort to close the gap they sense between themselves and their heavenly father. However, we would like to add that it is an ideal season to strengthen other relationships. In bolstering the bond in all relationships three adhesives are critical: time, talk, and trust.

NCU's Badminton Club in pursuit of Excellence

The Northern Caribbean University (NCU) badminton club started in the year 2003 with an initial membership of 15 persons – inclusive of both males and females. After its installment, the club penetrated the local badminton scene through its involvement in several competitions and tournaments hosted across the island. In 2006, the club hosted its very own tournament -The NCU Badminton Tournament- which garnered support from several top players from across the island as well as the president of Jamaica Badminton Association.

Indeed, all persons ought to worship Him every day of every year. It is He who is at the centre of our educational system and programmes, which is why our Mission Statement reads in part that we offer here at Northern Caribbean University “quality Christ-centred education, achieved through academic excellence, social interaction, physical and spiritual development and a strong work ethic…”

On October 26, 1961 the third Seventh-day Adventist conference in Jamaica – Central Jamaica Conference - was organized with 39 employees and 10,497 members in 131 churches. It covered the parishes of Manchester, Clarendon, St. Ann, Western St. Mary and St. Catherine.
