Feast of Lights brings Joy to the 'World'

On Saturday night, December 3, members of the Seventh-day Adventist community in Mandeville and as far away as Kingston, along with members of other religious denominations, and students flocked to the Northern Caribbean University’s (NCU) Main Auditorium to celebrate the joy of God's love especially in the gift of His son at the annual musical programme, 'Feast of Lights.'

Student Workers in the Department of Custodial Services at Northern Caribbean University (NCU) were recognised for their hard work and dedication on Tuesday, December 6, 2011. The honourees were presented with certificates and other awards at the university’s North Campus. The smiling faces at the function are definitely some that reveal the nature of the wonderful God we serve. Nature reveals the nature of God at NCU is a pictorial created by Daniel Smith, a student at the University, to welcome the Sabbath.

NCU Cops First Place in Inaugural Blackberry Developers Competition

Four students from NCU were crowned champions in the inaugural Blackberry Developers Competition on December 9, 2011 at the Rex Nettleford Hall Multipurpose Room, University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona. The team, consisting of Ricardo Thompson, Carlene Stewart, Terrence Sterling, Rhodrey Shaw and mentor Henry Osbourne, created an Application called Mathberry that assists students at the CSEC level. The UWI and the University of Technology, Jamaica, were placed second and third respectively. The competition was coordinated by the Ministry of Education, and was sponsored by Digicel, The Jamaica Observer, Researchers in Motion (RIM) and Sangster’s Bookstore.

DECARTERET College (DC) walked away with top honours in the inaugural BlackBerry Developers Competition with an application or app, combining music with chemistry. The competition — which climaxed at the University of the West Indies Friday — saw students from the primary to tertiary levels competing to create applications for BlackBerry smartphones and Playbook tablet computers.

Pastors Admonished not to be politician

Seventh-day Adventist pastors were admonished not to pursue politics, but to remain steadfast and focused to their Holy call “to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ.” The admonition came from Pastor Everett Brown, President of the Adventist Church in Jamaica during the Service of Ordination for four ministers held on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the Seventh-day Adventist Conference Centre in Montego Bay.

But she said they were while she was a sales associate at the Old Navy clothing store in Santa Clara, California, three years ago. Hasan said she was assigned to work in the fitting room and was never offered training for other positions, despite her repeated requests.

The Community Counselling and Restorative Justice Centre (CCRJC), an outreach arm of Northern Caribbean University (NCU) recently received $200,000 from the Environmental Foundation of Jamaica (EFJ) at a graduation exercise at Royal Flat Seventh-day Adventist church in Manchester. This figure brings to a total of more than $2.4 million in donations from corporate Jamaica for CCRJC’s training programmes for parents, youth, and young men throughout Manchester in the last 2 years. The most recent donation came at the graduation exercise for more than 100 parents and children from the Royal Flat communities in central Manchester. The programme which has empowered more than 500 parents, young fathers, and youth to date, has had positive effect on residents from ten communities throughout the parish. The Old Harbour SDA church is one of the more than 63 thousand churches in the family of believers – a very large family consisting of over 16 millions members. The Church and the Men’s Ministry in particular take seriously our responsibility to share the everlasting message with its family, friends, and communities.
