The Department of Humanities at Northern Caribbean University (NCU) led a stimulating discourse on ‘Breaking the Silence, Unleashing the African Thunder: Our African Heritage in Retrospect’ during its symposium on Wednesday, April 3, 2013. Members of academia, staff and students from NCU as well as guest speakers presented on Afro-Caribbean Identity, Ideas, Beliefs and Traditions in Retrospect, ‘A Time to Listen and a Time to Speak’: Caribbean Cultural Linguistics in review and Afro-Caribbean Heritage: Preservation and Relevance in the 21st century.

The Department of Communication Studies at Northern Caribbean University (NCU) will host its annual Communication Symposium and Lignum Vitae Film Festival starting April 8-9. It will be held under the theme, 'Show me the ginger: Using media to help Jamaicans to remain Jamaicanly'. The symposium which will be held at the university’s Main Campus in Mandeville features Media Specialist Dr Marcia Forbes as guest speaker, five time Emmy Award winner and Senior Producer for Good Morning America Sandra Aiken, BBC’s Mark Grey and other international and local specialists and personalities in Media.

The day also featured CBS’ Broadcast Associate Christa Aiken and Director of Operations in the Prime Minister’s Support Unit and lecturer in the Communications Arts and Technology department at UTECH, Dr. Deborah Hickling as lead discussants. Job hopefuls and aspiring entrepreneurs within the NCU student population and community convened in the institution’s Gymnatorium to listen to presentations and speak to exhibitors representing the various viable career paths on the current global job market.
