She orbits the space between the boardroom to the living room. She spans the gulf from the workstation to the laundry room. Without missing a beat, she moves from purging a yearend report to changing a baby’s diaper, and from articulating the organization’s five-year plan to planning the family’s weekly menu. In all of this the committed mother walks the tight rope of balancing the act of being mother and the consummate professional.

A line from the famous 13th century prayer of St Francis of Assisi reads, "For it is in giving that we receive." A prayerful reading of Esther 4 forcefully brings home the point that our own salvation is somehow wrapped up in our genuine efforts to secure the salvation of others - as was the case with Esther, whose destiny was inseparably linked with that of her people.

I imagine living in Haman's time, but I somehow knew the end of the story (I guess that'd make me a prophet); I'd probably coin a saying such as the following (though likely with a different mode of poetic expression).

A four-week evangelistic effort at the Ephesus Seventh-day Adventist Church in New York City’s famed Harlem neighborhood is drawing crowds and interest from non-Adventists, and that couldn’t come at a better time, senior pastor Dedrick L. Blue said recently. While Ephesus is the second-largest Seventh-day Adventist congregation in New York City and, according to Blue, its most active, attracting new people is always welcome.

Understanding

Understanding is not life’s only moral requirement. Misunderstanding that critical truth helps explain the chaos of humanistic optimism based on faith in cognitive keenness. American board-certified internist and addiction medicine specialist David Drew Pinsky, radio and television’s Dr. Drew, understands homosexuality. Drew’s video entitled Understanding Homosexuality is categorical: “There’s no evidence that it can be changed.”1

When i was 21 years old, it hit me: Truth, as in the truth, had to exist. Of course, the reality of the premise that the truth had to exist didn’t deductively lead to the conclusion that I could know it. My only issue was that, if humanly possible, I wanted to know it, no matter the cost.

The 6:00 a.m. alarm rattled me out of my drowsiness. I wanted to snooze, but this Friday would be a busy one, so I slipped out of bed and into my cozy slippers with the day’s agenda swirling in my head. On my list was my husband’s reminder that the UPS man would be delivering a package that required a signature.

He live in a highly sexualized society in which sex is perceived to be part of almost everything. We have more information about sexuality and sexual behavior than a person might ever wish to know. All this openness and information, however, does not appear to be helping us very much. It seems that somehow we’re missing something—such as a major foundational aspect of human sexuality that we are not clued into—leaving us with a rather large personal and societal deficiency.

Ahasuerus left it up to Haman the Horrible to craft a law that would bear his (the king’s) signet. As it turned out, he was forced to have another law written to rescind that law Haman wrote. The utter surprise however, is that the text does not indicate that Ahasuerus was any more involved in the craft of this new law, than he was in the first. Yet it was to bear his signet. Albeit that it worked in this instance in God's people's favour, Ahasuerus really has not learned his lesson; as once again he leaves matters into the hands of another – even though that first situation had almost cost him his precious Queen Esther. It also suggests a woeful lack of morals on the part of Ahasuerus - like anything goes. As a peculiar people, we can ill-afford to make ourselves vulnerable to another's indiscretions; we must constantly be guided by the Word of God.

“Familiarity breeds contempt!” This is an old adage that has driven fear into many a manager who’ll take great pains to maintain the wall of partition between manager and subordinate. This of course is necessary for many obvious reasons for the effective execution of the job through clearly defined roles. But can it be taken beyond its necessary limits until it proves to be counterproductive? Does civility compromise authority?

Haman had lain what must have been to him a fool-proof plan to annihilate all the Jews within the provinces of Ahasuerus. But not only must have Haman been confident in his plot, it no doubt caused great anxiety to among the Jews, who only had to fast and pray to their God - Who overturned a law that "could not be changed," and thereby changing the impending destiny of doom that His people faced.
